So here it is, my what would you do
how would you feel segment.
My boss hired a new guy this week, extra help/seasonal work yada yada. In the guys first day at work he let's everyone know he is on probation, and just spent 4 years in the pen for statutory rape. In his words..." she looked old enough." Today he makes a comment out of the blue that he keeps a machete in his car. I am suppose to close up shop by my self with this loon tomorrow, and my manager doesn't understand why I just can't look past his record and give him a second chance. I'll tell you why, if a grown man has sex with a child just because the child says it's okay, he is still evil. The same great fella was kicked out of another town for soliciting as well, it's obvious this guy has some issues, I don't feel safe around someone that is dumb enough to tell me all of his illegal undertakings, and then knowingly tell me his carries weapons. Is my concern unjustified? I just don't think some people get second chances, especially anyone with the word RAPE in the crime they committed, I'm just confused on this one....

Holy Hell! And your boss actually hired this person???
I don't know what to tell you....any way you can get someone else to close the store along with the two of you? Or are you allowed to have people (not coworkers) meet you after work?
Well, D and I were talking about this the other day. We decided there should be about a four year window in there around the legal age area.
There was a case recently in Georgia where a teen got blown by another teen and got 11 years in jail and life as a sex offender.

Rape is defined by the law, not morals, and it's screwed up sometimes. Tell me you didn't want to 16-year-old lovin' at some point when you were 19, or even 17!
Don't cast stones before you know all the details.
Now if the guy is 35 and she was 16, well, that's another story.
If D didn't feel safe around a guy with a criminal past that announced he was carrying weapons on probation (which is illegal)would you tell her aww shucks hun, just give him a chance.
My safety is more important to me than someone that has been in jail multiple times.
And yes he hired him because he lied on the application. The dude is obviously a stand up guy. That was sarcasim. Thanks for the comment E, but i'll keep my stones close by for casting on this one.
Um, yeah. I'm with E on the point of... 20 yr old dates a 16 yr old. Okay, his/her parents had a fit & scarred the guy's/girl's record. But, if it's a matter of a 35 yr old & a 16 yr old, yeah, nasty! But the freak lied on his app, carries a MACHETE in his car? What? Who does that other than someone who's obviously a nutjob?
It's your safety - refuse to close up with him alone, make your thoughts known & also that they are non-negotiable. Some people deserve second chances, but this guy sounds like someone who thinks it's actually cool to have a rap, a weapon, and to tell everyone about it.
If your boss wants to fire you for trusting your instincts over someone who lied on their job app, well, he/she's an ass.
A machete.... yeesh. I don't blame you.
For cryin' out loud, wouldn't carry a machete be a violation of his parole?
I wouldn't feel safe at all, even without the whole statutory rape thing, if someone tells me they're carrying something like that and he's already acting like a loon, I'd have to let my boss know that I was not comfortable at all.
